Race For The Cure

My sister Melanie and I ran a 5K as part of Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" for breast cancer. It was a wonderful experience. I was very proud of us for running this race. Neither of us are runners, especially me! I have never enjoyed running or been very good at, but I wanted to be a part of this event.

We were so amazed by how many people were there. This picture was taken right after we finished the race and I bet there was still more than double this amount still out on the race course. The Gateway Mall was just packed with people, you could barely walk around. It was so amazing to be gathered together with so many people that have been touched by the affects of breast cancer just like Melanie and me. Our mom passed away from breast cancer 3 years ago next month. Dealing with that has been the hardest thing in our lives and it was good to feel like we were doing something about it by donating money to run in this race.
The survivors of breast cancer wore pink shirts so that everyone could see who has dealt with this personally, it was a great tribute to all of them. Others, like us, could wear tags on there shirts to say who they were running in "memory of" or "celebration of." People would run past us in the race and we could see on there backs "memory of" sisters, mothers, wives, friends - so many people have suffered. Melanie and I plan to make this a yearly event for us. I'm already looking forward to next year.
