This is the Place

A little while ago we spent a wonderful day with Brad's family at This is the Place Heritage Park. I have to say, I was really impressed. I have always wanted to go since we have lived in Utah, but always wondered if Levi was still too young to really enjoy it and get much out of it. I was proven wrong.
Levi loved that there was a "train" that we could ride around the entire park as much as we wanted. And we could get off at different locations around the park to cut down on walking time. I love in this picture how we can see Mark and Summer in the previous car through the window, haha.
Then there was a place where we could pan for gold. Then you can trade in your gold you found for some candy. Right next to this stream was a boat (representing the ship Brooklyn that some saints came on) that the kids could play on. And there was a more realistic kids train that went around a pond on a track that we also rode. We also made some arrowhead necklaces with the "indians" at this train stop.
Then there was a farm area where Levi had a pony ride (all included) and pet some animals.Right outside the park are several monuments about different pioneers. Levi is lucky enough to have two ancestors represented there. One is my (Janae's) ancestor, Anson Call. And the other one is Brad's ancestor and Levi's namesake, Levi Jackman. That is always going to be special to him, sharing the exact name with someone listed as the first group of men to enter the Salt Lake Valley. I hope all our kids grow up with Brad's and mine desire to learn and understand our ancestors.
So if anybody was wondering if This is the Place park was a good place to go, my answer would be yes. And there are obviously a lot more to do with older kids, tours through historic buildings, craft house, be taught in an old school house, and a lot more. We could have spent the entire day there. Fun memories!
